Corazul's Buenavista to Drydock Before Brazil Launch

Corazul Cruceros has signed a bareboat charter agreement for the Buenavista, moving forward with plans to launch cruise service in Brazil later this year. The company's Chief Operating Officer, Cammile Appeldorn, confirmed the contract to Cruise Industry News.

The 1995-built ship, currently anchored off Hong Kong, was last operated by Astro Ocean Cruises under the name Piano Land. Appeldorn stated the vessel is expected to enter a drydock on Saturday.

Drydock and Repositioning Plans

Corazul's teams will board the Buenavista during its shipyard stay to begin preparations. Appeldorn explained that the work will involve removing the ship's current Chinese-oriented fittings and concept to prepare it for its new route. The company is working with BSM as its ship managers.

Following the drydock, the vessel is scheduled to depart Hong Kong on September 20. It will start a 30-day repositioning voyage to Santos, Brazil, which includes a technical call in Mauritius. Appeldorn noted that significant work will continue during the transit to avoid losing time.

"We want to come here to Brazil as soon as possible to start our operations," he said. The departure was delayed slightly due to the contract signing process, but Appeldorn added that "essentially everything is done now."

Itinerary and Inaugural Schedule

The official plan calls for the Buenavista to arrive in South America in early November. From there, it will operate a series of three- to seven-night cruises departing from the ports of Santos and Rio de Janeiro.

With the ship now expected to reach its Brazilian homeport in late October, the company may welcome its first guests earlier than initially planned. Corazul is currently working with a tentative date of October 23, 2026, for its inaugural shakedown cruise.

The company also plans an inaugural celebration featuring a traditional christening ceremony, with details to be announced later.

Onboard Experience and Concept

Appeldorn emphasized that the new product will focus on delivering an authentic onboard experience, with particular attention paid to entertainment and food and beverage offerings. He stated that the company's strength lies in its prepared concept, not only the ship's hardware.

"There's so much ready on paper, and now it's coming to life for us," Appeldorn said. "We're very enthusiastic about this. It's really gonna be beautiful." The company has been preparing for this launch for an extended period.
