Riviera Travel Guarantees Options for Itinerary Changes
Riviera Travel River Cruises has launched a Vacation Guarantee, offering travelers three clear choices-including a full refund-if their itinerary changes before departure due to issues like low water levels.

Riviera Travel River Cruises launched a new Vacation Guarantee on October 19, 2026. The policy offers travelers clear options and refunds when itineraries change due to environmental disruptions like low water or extreme weather.
The Vacation Guarantee outlines a commitment to clear communication, flexible alternatives, and practical solutions. It is designed to give travel advisors confidence that booked river cruises will be delivered as promised. The guarantee is built around five key commitments: Personal Communication, Flexible Options for Travelers, Commitment to Quality, Dedicated Onboard Support, and Financial Peace of Mind.
How the guarantee works in practice
Riviera Travel pledged to personally contact advisors in the event of a significant itinerary change. This communication aims to explain the situation, discuss options, and provide ongoing support until the issue is resolved. Personal communication occurs no later than 72 hours before departure if changes are anticipated.
The company monitors 52 river gauges daily to track water levels and identify potential impacts. Travelers receive updates 14 and seven days before their cruise begins. Under Dedicated Onboard Support, Cruise Directors, Hosts, and Tour Managers will be available in person during disruptions to communicate changes and answer questions. The Financial Peace of Mind commitment promises transparency and protection for travelers' investments.
Options when plans change
When itineraries change prior to departure, travelers have three defined options. These choices are designed to provide financial security and flexibility.
Riviera prioritizes preserving the experience over replacing scenic sailing with extended motorcoach transfers. If an alternative itinerary does not meet a traveler's expectations, the guarantee allows for cancellation for a full refund instead of proceeding with a significantly changed vacation.
Commitment to quality and experience
Under its Commitment to Quality, Riviera states it will cancel a departure rather than proceed with an experience that falls short of its standard. This applies if it cannot deliver the expected vacation due to significant disruptions. Adjustments have occurred many times this year due to low water levels.
Stuart Milan, president of North America for Riviera Travel River Cruises, emphasized the company's responsibility to advisors. "Travel advisors put their trust in us every time they recommend our brand to a client and we take that responsibility seriously," Milan said. The company is also preparing to convert the George Elliot into a vessel dedicated to solo travelers as demand for solo departures rises.
