River cruise line AmaWaterways has appointed Steve Spivak as its Chief Commercial Officer. His role becomes effective on September 30, according to a company announcement.
The move represents a shift in the company's leadership structure. AmaWaterways stated the appointment supports its ongoing growth within the luxury river cruise market.
In his new position, Spivak will lead several key departments. He will oversee the Sales, Global Service & Reservations, and Revenue Management teams. His mandate is to unify these groups under a single commercial strategy.
His focus will be on supporting company growth. A major part of this will involve strengthening ties with travel advisors, strategic partners, and guests.
Leadership Endorsement
Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways, endorsed the new hire. "Spivak brings an incredible depth of experience and a genuine passion for travel, people and the relationships that make this industry so special," Powell said. She cited his extensive background in luxury travel and hospitality as an ideal fit for the leadership team.

Spivak's Career Background
The company described Spivak as a seasoned executive with nearly thirty years of experience. His career is noted for a focus on relationship-building and guest experience development.
His most recent role was a fourteen-year tenure at tour operator Tauck. He served most recently as the vice president of global sales and customer experience. There, he managed a wide range of commercial and customer leadership duties.
Before Tauck, Spivak was vice president of global sales for Loews Hotels. Earlier, he held senior sales and marketing positions with Starwood Hotels & Resorts. This built his foundational experience across the broader hospitality industry.
Earlier Professional Life
Spivak's career began in entrepreneurship. He created and operated a portfolio of restaurant and hospitality concepts. He also served as an adjunct professor at New York University’s Tisch Center for Hospitality and Tourism.
AmaWaterways said his diverse background will help guide its commercial strategy. The company is positioning the hire as a step to cement its standing in the competitive luxury river cruise segment.
