A male passenger jumped overboard from the Carnival Panorama on the afternoon of Saturday, September 19, 2026. The incident occurred as the 133,500-gross-ton ship was sailing from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, back to its homeport of Long Beach, California, according to a statement from Carnival Cruise Line provided to Cruise Hive.

The ship was roughly 190 miles south of Ensenada when it reversed course. Carnival confirmed the guest had jumped overboard. Onboard CCTV footage later verified the incident.

The Onboard Search and Response

Announcements to locate a missing guest began around 11 a.m. That Saturday. The ship made a broad turn at approximately 3 p.m., heading south away from its route to Long Beach. At 3:30 p.m., the captain ordered a shipwide search. All guests were confined to their staterooms while security teams scanned identification cards.

An hour later, passengers were told to remain in their rooms as the search continued. The captain and cruise director addressed the ship at 5 p.m. They confirmed the overboard after reviewing camera footage. "Carnival is providing support to the family who was traveling with the guest, and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones," a spokesperson told Cruise Hive.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Mexican authorities were alerted to lead the ongoing search and rescue operation. With the onboard search concluded, guests were released from their staterooms and the Carnival Panorama resumed its course to Long Beach.

Potential Impact on the Next Sailing

After the search, the ship increased speed to 21 knots, close to its top speed, to recover time. Its scheduled arrival in Long Beach was for 9 a.m. On Sunday, September 20. Any delay could impact the embarkation for the next cruise.

Carnival Cruise Line has not confirmed any schedule changes. The next scheduled voyage is a 6-night Mexican Riviera itinerary.
