Carnival Corporation and Princess Cruises have reassigned four senior executives. Remco Buis is now Senior Vice President of global ports and destinations for Carnival Corp., Renata Ribeiro has become chief of staff to CEO Josh Weinstein, Giana Rotter is the new SVP of crew lifecycle management, and Emiel de Vries has been promoted to SVP of maritime operations at Princess Cruises.

These changes were announced in September 2026. The moves are part of the company's internal talent development strategy.

New Leadership for Ports and Destinations

Remco Buis now leads Carnival Corporation's global ports and destinations development, reporting to Chief Maritime Officer Lars Ljoen. He fills a role previously held by Renata Ribeiro. Buis is a company veteran who was most recently SVP of maritime operations at Princess Cruises for nearly four years. His earlier career includes serving as chief operating officer of Yusen Terminals in Los Angeles and holding various marine and port operations roles at Carnival Maritime in Hamburg.

Buis also has direct experience with specific port projects. He previously worked as senior manager for West Coast development within the same global ports group he now leads, focusing on the Long Beach Cruise Terminal.

Strategic Focus for the CEO's Office

Renata Ribeiro has transitioned from overseeing ports and destinations to become chief of staff for CEO Josh Weinstein. In this SVP role, she will focus on business transformation, including AI strategy and cost containment. Seatrade Cruise News notes she has a history of working closely with Weinstein from his time as COO.

Her previous responsibilities were extensive. She managed seven Caribbean destinations, the company's cruise terminals in Barcelona and Tenerife, and was responsible for the design and operations of Celebration Key and the RelaxAway area at Half Moon Cay. Before her corporate role, Ribeiro spent twelve years at Carnival Cruise Line in areas including destination development and shore excursions.

Managing the Crew Experience

Giana Rotter has moved from the chief of staff position to a new role as SVP of crew lifecycle management within Carnival Corporation's human resources department, reporting to Chief HR Officer Bettina Deynes. The chief of staff role is one the company periodically rotates. Rotter had held that position for the past two years.

Her prior experience includes serving as SVP of business planning and innovation, where she managed Princess Cruises' post-pandemic return to profitability and service. She joined Carnival in 2016 after nearly a decade with Accenture.

Princess Cruises' Maritime Operations

At Princess Cruises, Emiel de Vries has been promoted from Vice President to Senior Vice President of maritime operations. He has been with Princess for three years in marine and port operations. De Vries brings significant seafaring and safety experience from over twelve years at Holland America Line.

His background includes serving as captain of several Holland America ships. He acted as the on-site captain at the Fincantieri shipyard during the construction of the Koningsdam. Later, in shoreside roles in Seattle, he served as fleet captain and then as director of safety operations for the Holland America Group, which includes Princess.

CEO Josh Weinstein framed the changes as a core company principle. "Great companies don’t just attract great talent, they develop it," Weinstein said. He stated that creating opportunities for proven leaders strengthens the team and the company's future.
