Oceania Cruises has announced the cruise industry's first fully gluten-free ocean voyage. The 12-night sailing will take place aboard the Oceania Vista, departing from Southampton on May 31, 2028.
According to a company press release, every dining venue on the ship will offer entirely gluten-free menus. This includes signature specialty restaurants like Toscana, Polo Grill, Red Ginger, and Jacques, as well as casual spots such as Aquamar Kitchen and Waves Grill.
Jason Montague, chief luxury officer of Oceania Cruises, said the brand sees food as central to its identity. "This voyage gives our culinary team an extraordinary opportunity to reimagine our acclaimed onboard dining experiences through an entirely gluten-free lens," Montague stated.
Itinerary and Onboard Experience
The roundtrip voyage will explore landscapes and historic cities in England, Ireland, and Scotland. Port calls are scheduled for Cork (Cobh), Dublin (Dún Laoghaire), Glasgow (Greenock), Stornoway in the Hebrides, and Edinburgh (Newhaven).
The company says guests will be able to enjoy afternoon tea, in-suite dining, and freshly baked pastries from The Bakery without having to limit their choices. The aim is to allow travelers to relax, knowing the entire culinary experience has been designed for them.
Partnership with Celiac Cruise
Oceania is developing the voyage in partnership with Celiac Cruise, an organization that provides expertise on the needs of gluten-free travelers. Celiac Cruise will also serve as an official booking partner for the sailing.
Maureen Basye, founder of Celiac Cruise, highlighted the significance for travelers with celiac disease. "The opportunity to board a ship knowing the culinary experience has been designed to be entirely gluten-free fundamentally changes what travel can feel like for so many," Basye said. She explained that food often requires careful planning at every stage of a journey for those with the condition.
Culinary Philosophy and Challenge
Oceania Cruises positions the voyage as an exciting challenge for its culinary team. The company stated the goal is to demonstrate that a completely gluten-free experience can deliver the same variety, creativity, and pleasure that guests expect from its 'Finest Cuisine at Sea' philosophy.
Montague emphasized that the voyage is designed to let guests focus on their vacation. "Most importantly, it will allow guests to relax into their vacation knowing the entire culinary experience has been created with them in mind," he added. Instead of planning around food, guests can focus on destinations and companionship.
