Holland America Line will add the Vista Class ship Arcadia to its fleet in 2029. This addition expands the fleet from 11 to 12 ships and grows overall capacity by more than 2,000 guests, providing a faster path to growth and greater deployment flexibility for the line. The transfer from P&O Cruises was announced on October 6, 2026.

Beth Bodensteiner stated that Holland America Line continues to see strong demand from guests seeking immersive travel experiences, genuine hospitality, and perfectly sized ships. This addition is one chapter in a larger story supporting near-term growth and fits alongside the company's broader modernization and future fleet expansion plans.

Part of the Holland America Evolution transformation

Adding Arcadia directly supports the Holland America Evolution programme. This is described as the largest guest experience transformation in the line’s 153-year history. The ship provides another platform for this ongoing modernization and complements the long-term fleet modernization strategy.

As a Vista Class ship, Arcadia is a natural fit and an exciting extension of Holland America Evolution. Bodensteiner noted that adding Arcadia allows the line to welcome more guests while building on what guests already love about the brand. The additional capacity helps offer more choices to travelers who believe the journey should be as rewarding as the destination.

Simultaneous fleet shift with P&O Cruises

This move is part of a broader fleet reshuffle within Carnival Corporation. As Arcadia moves to Holland America Line, P&O Cruises will welcome the 3,000-passenger Queen Anne from Cunard in 2029. Queen Anne will undergo extensive design changes that same year to align with the P&O Cruises fleet.

Evolution upgrades rolling out across existing fleet

Major upgrades are already underway across the existing Holland America fleet. Four Vista Class ships are receiving extensive enhancements. The rollout schedule for the next two vessels is confirmed.

New features already revealed for Oosterdam and Zuiderdam include the Grand Dutch Café, a renovated Ocean Bar, expansive Bridgeview Suites, and purpose-built Solo Verandah cabins. Arcadia shares the same Vista Class platform as Oosterdam, Noordam, Westerdam, and Zuiderdam and will receive similar enhancements before beginning its service.

Future details to come

Specific venues and features for Arcadia will be determined in the next several months. Further details regarding its future deployment and design, along with updates on other ships undergoing the Evolution, will be shared in the coming months. Holland America Line will provide these updates in real time at its dedicated Evolution hub online. The company is also considering newbuilds as part of its broader approach to modernization and future fleet expansion.

Beth Bodensteiner said: "We create experiences for the curious, offering new perspectives and deeper connections to the world and each other." Holland America Line will share further details about Arcadia’s deployment and design in the coming months.
