Aroya Cruises has marked a successful season in the Mediterranean, marking a strategic growth platform for the Cruise Saudi-backed brand.
The 3,500-passenger ship, which debuted in the region in 2025, has been sailing seven-night cruises to destinations in Turkey, Greece, and Egypt. The deployment is nearing its end, followed by a charter operation in Italy.
According to Ala Tashkandi, commercial executive director, the operations in the Mediterranean have multiple purposes, extending beyond a traditional supply-demand scenario. He stated that the success of the season was not just about being present in the Mediterranean but about demonstrating Aroya's commercial relevance in a competitive cruise market, strengthening established distribution channels, and continuing to build demand among a broader international guest base.
Tashkandi highlighted that guests are responding to the full Aroya experience, including the destinations, hospitality, family appeal, dining, and premium spaces such as Khuzama. The season also marked the launch of Aroya's first interporting operations, with select cruises allowing guests to start their cruises in Alexandria, Egypt.
## Aroya's Unique Selling Points
Aroya's unique selling points include its Arabian character and the uniqueness that extends beyond the galleys. The ship offers a dynamic experience based on itineraries, with a slightly different menu served in the Red Sea compared to the Mediterranean.
Chef Mohamed Ashour explained that the ship's menu is tailored to match the guest profile, offering a unique experience that is different from any other cruise line. The ship's restaurants serve food that is not available on other cruise lines, with 12 food venues onboard.
## Challenges of Operating in the Mediterranean
Operating in the Mediterranean brings a unique set of challenges, including windy conditions in the Greek Islands and full-speed transits to Egypt. Captain Roland Polic noted that the region, however, allows for varied itineraries that offer a series of highlights for passengers.
The history, sea, color of the sea, and warmth of the Mediterranean make it a unique and fascinating region to sail in. The proximity of different ports allows for a diverse range of experiences without having to sail for long periods.
## Aroya's Commitment to Saudi Culture
Aroya's commitment to Saudi culture is evident in its onboard programming, entertainment, and decorations. Hotel Director Marco de Oliveira stated that the vessel itself serves as an ambassador of Saudi culture, showcasing the Kingdom's traditions to the world.
The ship maintains its halal food and beverage operations, with alcoholic beverages not allowed onboard. This serves as a key differentiator for the Aroya, according to Restaurant & Bar Operations Manager Dino Imamovic.
## Conclusion
Aroya Cruises has marked a successful season in the Mediterranean, serving as a strategic growth platform for the Cruise Saudi-backed brand. The ship's unique selling points, including its Arabian character and commitment to Saudi culture, have been well-received by guests. As Aroya continues to grow and expand its operations, it is clear that the Mediterranean will remain a key destination for the brand.
