Quark Expeditions' Ships Witness Rare Solar Eclipse Above Greenland

## Total Solar Eclipse Witnessed by Quark Expeditions' Guests Guests aboard Quark Expeditions' ships the Ultramarine and Ocean Explorer experienced a rare and breathtaking sight - a total solar eclipse above Greenland. The eclipse, which occurred on August 12, 2026, was visible from Harefjord, Greenland, and lasted approximately two minutes and 15 seconds of totality. This is said to be one of the longest durations of totality visible anywhere on Earth, as the path of totality crossed Greenland and Iceland. The event was witnessed by guests who had joined Quark Expeditions' 17-day voyage, which included expert guidance and presentations to enhance their understanding of the eclipse. ## Expert Insights and Guided Photography Program Veteran science journalist and author David Baron, who has witnessed nine total solar eclipses across the globe, delivered a keynote presentation on the scientific aspects of the eclipse. He noted that the setting of the eclipse in the High Arctic enhanced the experience, and that gazing at the corona above the rugged terrain of Scoresbysund felt like being transported to an alien world. Eclipse cartographer Michael Zeiler, founder of GreatAmericanEclipse.com and co-author of Atlas of Solar Eclipses: 2020 to 2045, also joined the voyage. He deepened guests' understanding of eclipse viewing, observational astronomy, and celestial mechanics throughout the voyage. Zeiler noted that Scoresbysund stood out as one of the best places on Earth to see the eclipse, and that witnessing the map become real was a thrilling experience. Both voyages also featured Quark's new Guided Photography Program, which provided guests with dedicated expert guidance to photograph the eclipse and the polar landscape surrounding it. This program allowed guests to capture the rare and breathtaking sight of the total solar eclipse in the stunning Arctic landscape. ## Unique Experience for Guests Guests who witnessed the total solar eclipse on Quark Expeditions' ships had a unique and unforgettable experience. The combination of expert guidance, presentations, and the breathtaking sight of the eclipse made this voyage a once-in-a-lifetime experience for those who participated.
