Carnival Dream Galveston Terminal Switch for September 5

Carnival Cruise Line has emailed guests booked on the Carnival Dream sailing from Galveston on Saturday, September 5, 2026, warning of a terminal switch and traffic congestion. The notification alerts passengers to ongoing road construction at the Port of Galveston that has caused issues for nearly a year.

According to the email from the cruise line, "Ahead of your embarkation, we have an update regarding a change in the terminal you will be embarking and roadwork at the Port of Galveston." The 3,646-guest Carnival Dream will now embark from Cruise Terminal 28 on the port's west end, not the originally scheduled Cruise Terminal 25. Although the terminals are adjacent, there is no vehicle access between them.

Traffic and Parking Instructions

Roadway detours and lane closures on Harborside Drive, the main road by the cruise terminal, will impact arrivals. "Construction is underway along sections of Harborside Drive," the cruise line explained. "Consequently, there will be lane closures." Port personnel and signage will be present to direct traffic.

Guests using ride-share or being dropped off should enter and exit the terminal area from 33rd Street west of the cruise terminals. For those parking at the port, Carnival advises going directly to the parking location with luggage instead of attempting a terminal drop-off first. A complimentary shuttle will then transport guests and bags to the terminal. This shuttle service does not apply to the closer Express Lot or SMP Garage, where guests can walk.

Embarkation and Itinerary Details

Passengers must adhere to their pre-selected terminal arrival appointment. All guests must be on board by the final boarding time printed on their pass, with no exceptions for traffic delays. The ship's departure remains scheduled for 3:30 p.m. On September 5.

The sailing is an 8-night voyage to the Bahamas. The itinerary includes calls at Key West, Celebration Key, RelaxAway Half Moon Cay, and Nassau. No changes to this itinerary have been announced.

Historical Context of Galveston Disruptions

This is not an isolated incident. According to Cruise Hive, similar construction-related difficulties affected the Carnival Jubilee on May 16, 2026, and the Carnival Breeze on May 18, 2026. An earlier phase of the same road project also disrupted sailings in the fall of 2025, impacting both Terminal 25 and Terminal 28 with traffic rerouting for several weeks.

When the Carnival Dream returns on Sunday, September 13, the Port of Galveston's schedule lists the ship at Cruise Terminal 25, a detail passengers should note when planning parking for embarkation day. The ship is scheduled to reposition to New Orleans in May 2027.
