Philadelphia Cruise Terminal Opens

Philadelphia's new permanent cruise terminal officially opened on August 27, 2026. Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings announced $50,000 in community contributions during the ribbon-cutting ceremony, according to a report from Seatrade Cruise News.

Executives from Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, Mayor Cherelle Parker, and various state and local leaders attended the event. The terminal's completion provides a dedicated home for cruise operations, following Norwegian Cruise Line's return to the city in April, which marked the first major line sailing from Philadelphia in over 15 years.

Before this facility was finished, passengers had been checking in at an airport hotel before being shuttled to the pier.

Community Support

As part of the opening celebration, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings detailed its $50,000 in contributions. Precisely $20,000 is allocated to Tinicum Township’s local fire department. The remaining $30,000 will benefit three Boys & Girls Clubs across Greater Philadelphia.

Dan Farkas, EVP, chief development officer and general counsel for NCLH, emphasized the company's commitment. "Today we celebrate being part of this community," Farkas said. He stated the company aims to support first responders and young people while creating new tourism opportunities.

Economic Impact

Rich Lazer, executive director and CEO at PhilaPort, called the terminal a critical component of the region's economic development strategy. He said it would create good jobs and generate new economic activity.

Cruise operations at the new terminal are projected to generate approximately 2,185 direct and indirect jobs. The annual economic output throughout Pennsylvania is estimated at nearly $300 million.

Lazer also highlighted the partnership with Norwegian Cruise Line. He said it would establish Philadelphia as a welcoming destination for the cruise industry, attracting more visitors and creating opportunities for residents and businesses in southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey.

Itineraries and Agreement

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has a seven-year agreement with PhilaPort, which runs through March 2033. Current and upcoming ship deployments from the terminal include specific itineraries.

The new voyages on Norwegian Gem in summer 2028 will feature an overnight stay at Bermuda's Royal Naval Dockyard paired with a day at Norfolk, Virginia. One of these cruises will substitute Portland, Maine for the Norfolk stop.
